Realtek: NO SOUND but EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED PROPERLY

Hi. I'm having a problem with my sound not working but it's weird how I try to troubleshoot close to every problem (plus searching this forum and others).

I have a P4 3.Ghz, Asus P5ND2-SLI mobo with a AC97 Realtek sound device running on Windows XP.

I have installed the necessary components: AC97 device, directx 9, nvidia chipset thingy plus connected the speakers to the green 'line out'.

When I go to the ASUS RealTek Sound Manager, I set the FRONT Speaker Connector (Green LINE IN) to the speakers and PRESS START. A display shows that speaker are properly connected to the line in. But when i try to test if there's sound, NOTHING comes out.

STRANGLY though, after trying something else, I changed the Speaker Config. on the RealTek Sound Manger to 4 CH and put the speaker jack to another input (a gray one) and when i test, it works but it's playing the REAR SPEAKERS and not the FRONT - which is not what i want as a quick fix.

JUST TO LET YOU KNOW:

- It's a NEW installed built computer with Windows XP, so ROLLING BACK the driver is pointless since it won't allow me anyway.
- The Windows Audio Service IS on and starts automatically
- There are NO yellow (!) errors on the Device manager for any sound component or any component for that matter
- I have installed the ONLINE ASUS Realtek AC97 Driver from their site and still no luck
- AC97 DRIVER is ENABLED on ASUS bios
- The Default Device is RealTek AC97 Audio and windows DOES recognize this component.
- I have reinstalled windows xp over and over with no luck (while doing the steps above)
- I have installed windows xp with a service pack and still no luck (while doing the steps above)

Yes probably a hard one to solve since EVERYTHING is in PROPER order, it's just that there's no sound for UNKNOWN reasons.

Could someone please help me fix this problem

thanks

^ yep. tried SPDIF Digital only / SPDIF Digital & Analog

it's annoying how the SOUND works if i place the speaker jack in the 'gray input' - playing only REAR if i set it as 4 ch and up.

Check these out

Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Audio tab / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply > click Start > Reboot.

^ my speakers are plugged into the '7' lime line out port. But when I connect it there's no sound even if I configure that ther are speakers on that line on the ASUS Realtek sound manager. It only works when i unplug the speaker and put it to the '5' - which for some reason plays the REAR when I do a soundtest on the Realtek sound manager.

I have 2 logitech speakers. So it should be connected on the 'lime' '7' - 2ch line out. but i get no sound.

they are logitech R-20 speakers that comes with it's own power pack supply. 2 satellite speaker and 1 subwoofer : the subwoofer line feeds from one of the satellite speakers. Total peak power: 24 W.

i have tried that. I've also put it as "always show results..." and an image pops up of what is connected - at first it displays that there's a red 'X' on the line in... after a while of unplugging and connection it then senses there's a line in without the red 'X', but still there's no sound unless I plug in the speakers to the Grey line which plays the rear.

So basicallty there's sound coming out. But not in the right line. And I don't think the line is corrupted or something since there are some other people who have the same problem that I have, but no one has been able to solve it - either that or I'm not googling hard enough =\

If you haven't noticed, your sound card IS your speakers.

I have Logitech speakers, same specs as what you have, and I also have an on board realtek sound card, once I remove the speakers (including drivers) and use standard speakers, I get sound, but once I connect the Logitech speakers, it stops sound coming out of my Realtek, as it's onboard and the speakers become my NEW sound card.

^ i don't understand exactly what you mean by "my soundcard is my speakers". But to test it, I've tried also pluging in headphones in the line in and there's still no sound - unless my headphones are also part of a soundcard? lol i dunno...

anyway here are some images that could help you (sorry if they are too big):

speakers connected to line in

General configuration

computer managment - audio drives look all good and appear running

windows audio service in ON

Audio device

speaker setup

and:

on SPDIF:
- assigned to: Output digital and analog only

Hardware (on sound manager)
Realtek AC'97 Audio
Location: PCI Bus 0, Device 19 function 0
Device is working properly

Not forgotten, been busy doing exams at college, it's late and at the moment I'm reading the manual to see what it says. I'll post back when I've got a better idea of what to do, seems you have to load the sensing device, it's a bit vague I know but only just started to read in depth.
