Question monitor problems

I have a dell computer. I am running windows xp. I am not sure exactly when this problem occurred, but I now have about a 1/4 inch of black space on the top, bottom and right hand side of my screen. It causes the left hand side to hide some of the screen. In other words, I can't read everything on the left side. I have tried fixing it with resolution in properties but that doesn't help. Any ideas what the problem is and how I can fix it??

Thanks

is the montior a crt or lcd.. usally on the crt monitors you go into setting on the on screen menu and adjust the screen ie you can stretch it to fit the screen..by adjusting screen size in the sub menu. this usally happens when you changed the font sizes and windows boxes in display properties appearance setting.
