Problems After Installing Windows XP SP2

Hi

I recently bought a new machine - Lenovo 3000 H Series, Pentium Dual Core 1.3 GHz, 1 GB RAM which came preloaded with Windows Vista Home Basic.
I am trying to set up the machine with Windows XP SP2. Although the installation runs fine, the desktop items simply vanish. I face no problems in accessing the application through the Start Menu, but the desktop remains blank.
The twist to the story is, if I change the STart Menu properties and select "Classic Start Menu", I do get to see the desktop items. But the moment I switch back to the other one, they disappear again.
Post Win XP installation, I am also facing problems with the graphics part in some games. For instance when I installed Age Of Empires III Trial Edition, I am not able to see any part of the map.

Can someone please help me with this peculiar problem.

Go to Lenovo's website and download the correct drivers for the graphics card and install. Or if you have the drivers CD, install the correct driver.
