No AUDIO no device files

My windows media was working fine, all of a sudden I see all of the sound devices in my control panel are no longer available. They state in the software they are ok, ie. no problems but everything is shaded out.
I installed bellarc as someone suggested in another thread, here are the relevant facts below. Something must have changed, it is not possible for all 5 devices to fail?

In control panel under Sound properties it says 'no audio'. Windows media says "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly". I recently upgraded to windows media 11. Please help.
