After getting proper drivers, how does one associate the Audio Playback device w hw?

Hello,

I've had great success in reinstalling the drivers after Barbara (bookworm) pointed me to the correct site (RealTex '97, Toshiba laptop).

I thought I'd spawn this thread as the answer might be buried in the multitude of requests for the download sites of proper drivers.

Now in the Device Manager, I have no little yellow question mark left of the Multimedia Control Devices.

In the Device Manager, I see under Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices Volume tab "no Audio Device" and no playback devices (grayed, no drop down) under the Control Panel/Sounds/Audio tab. When I try to add the RealTex '97 from Control Panel/Add Hardware, it says the device is functional.

I had been getting one system beep before I reinstalled the drivers, so I believe the hardware is still operative.

How can I reassociate the device with the playback devices?

Thanks doubly in advance,
J Gilbert
