help regarding TaskManager being disabled

im not good at computers so i really need some good advice, on what i shud do.. the problem is my TM is disabled.so far i have tried using this methods:

1. run-> REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Pol icies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

2. run->gpedit.msc->etc..

3.ppedia-task-manager-setup(well in this one it made another TM)

and currently im trying to use and find out my problems by using HJT and here are the current results..

oh before using HJT my friend gave me a cd for Avast anti virus and we tried using it.. we scanned the pc, and deleted some of the viruses however the one involving files that are contained on windows we placed it on a chest/vault or something like that..

anyway the report above is the current one ive used using HJT and i DL superantispyware as the other one said.. so what shud i do next?

note: thanks mr. oddjob for helping me out telling me waht to do, ive DL the one u mentioned so what shud i do next to remove all this malware and stuff.. shud i just choose the delete option?

Ok, firstly...... which antivirus is this HJT?? Because I've never heard it.... Sorry but that is the truth...... Try using McAfee..... It's mostly because of a virus.... Scan your whole computer with a different antivirus then type that code which you've mentioned above in Start Menu>Run..... It'll mostly work......

Yes you can allow Superantispyware to delete anything that it identifies as bad.

Next you need to download SDFix from here and save it to your desktop …….

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following ……

• Restart your computer
• After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
• Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
• Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
• Choose your usual account.
In Safe Mode, right click the SDFix.zip folder and choose Extract All ……
• Open the extracted folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
• Type Y to begin the script.
• It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
• Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
• Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
• When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
• Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt back onto the forum with a new HijackThis log.

Please also try the Task manager fixes in Monty's link and let us know of you got your TM back.

@ashwin.terminat ... you lost me (and, I suspect, everyone else). Antivirus is not HJT and HJT isn't antivirus. The user is running Avast antivirus which is perfectly OK. Please explain your remark.

oh I'm so sorry... I've been outta touch with my abbreviations... so 4got bout HJT but remembered now.... sorry about that.... ok after re-phrasing........

1) Scan your whole computer and delete any file which has a virus
2) Restart your computer
3) type "REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Pol icies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f" without the quotes
in Start>Run
If the run text doesn't work, then after step 2:

1) type "gpedit.msc" without quotes in start>run
2) Browse to User Configuration>Administrative Templates>System>Ctrl+Alt+Del Options>Remove Task Manager... disable Remove Task Manager.....

yey!! w8t i tried to check and redo some of the earlier things you guys gave as advice and currently my task manger is now enabled.. thanks a lot.. you guys really saved me from spending money for outside repairs..
