Unhappy checking file system

every time I log on , my computer comes to the windows screen and then goes to a blue screen that says
Checking file system on C: the type of file system is Fat32 one of your discs needs to be checked for consistency you may cancel the disc check but it is strongly recomended that you continue.
Well I continued it went on forever, dont think it ever finished but it stopped. I used my startup dick and booted up with it, reloading everything that was on the startup. When I was finished I tried again and the same thing happened. It happens everytime I startup. I have to hit any key to make it stop. Whats happening and how do I make it better.
Thanks

Possibly errors on the disk which Error-checker can't rectify, but if it's a large-capacity disk (200Gb+) it will take a long time to complete, so you should let it run to completion -- overnight perhaps, because unless you allow it to finish it will always run at startup since the errors haven't been corrected and XP knows this.

One thing I notice is that your C: drive is FAT32 which is less stable (and therefore more prone to errors) than NTFS which most people have for XP.
After allowing the error-check to complete, you should ideally convert the C: drive from FAT32 to NTFS. XP has a built-in tool for doing this.
Instructions here: http://www.tech-faq.com/convert-fat32-to-ntfs.shtml

I agree with Pip22, but failing that, I'd recommend finding out the make of your Hard Disk, go to the manufacturers website and download a diagnostic tool to check the drive for errors, if it picks up any errors, your drive could be failing, back up and remaster. If the same, then replace the drive.
