Please Help!!!

Hi friends i am a new user and require a bit of help.

I have the same problem of sound as many others but mine is a bit different.
After reformatting my computer and installing windows xp pro build 2600 when i tried installing the sound driver the soundmax software says that this version is not supported by my hardware. I downloaded the latest version but still the same problem.

My Specs:

OS : Windows xp pr0 sp2 build 2600
Motherboard : Asus P5GL-MX
Processor : Pentium 4 2.8ghz
RAM : Kingston 512 DDR I
Hard Disk : Maxtor 40gb

I have checked everything in the device manager and in the sound section only codecs are listed and that belrac software list none in multimedia section.I have no ext sound card, it is an inbuilt one.

Is there a fault with the copy of windows because the original windows xp pro i had worked fine. I would like to say that i have only formatted only my c drive and the rest 3 i left out as they contained my songs and games.

PS: Sorry if there is a post about it already but have a dial up connection and it took me about 5min to open this posting window let alone browsing 500 pages long thread.

It's a different language and a joke, porn site I think by the looks of it.

You do have a sound max driver so it's weird with that error you mentioned.

Try it from the motherboard website (The 2nd one down)

Didn't work. I had tried this before with the same result and i had little hope. This is driving me crazy. Some of the games i want to play are not working without sound and my speakers are biting dust as well.

I think it's the copy of windows. I will try to install a new one and let you guys know whether it worked or not.

Anyway thanks for your help.

On the link that Kevin gave, under Others install the Intel Chipset - Restart your comp then install the audio driver again. The Chipset tells Win XP which INF files it need to load so as to function correctly.

Go to Asus http://support.asus.com.tw/download/...Language=en-us

there are 4 different versions of this driver, 5.10.1.4100 / 4140 / 4150B and 5.10.01.4151. Try a different version

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

i have tried that. i have tried installing the driver that came with my mb disc but it says first to install some uaa patch and then update it from the sound game video controller tab in device manager but the patch doesn't shows up there. Instead it shows up in system devices. When i try to update it, it just says there is no better match. The computer shows the patch to be installed as it turns up in remove software window.

today when i installed the inf program once again a pci device was shown in the system devices but the hardware was not installed properly. but when i installed the uaa driver it vanished and was replaced by a microsoft uaa driver for high definition audio in the system devices. but when i tried to install the soundmax driver it showed the same error that it doesn't supports my hardware.

Sorry, if double postings are not allowed but i thought i should keep you informed about it.

Just checked the driver, the M$ UAA is included in the downloaded file from Asus

to be sure audio is onboard speakers should plug into the I/O plate as shown here, if in an expansion slot then you have a sound card installed, click image to focus http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...0io%20slot.JPG

if they do plug into the I/O plate then you need to check if audio is [Enabled] in the BIOS, heres how

All commands are done using the keyboard,

Start computer and immediately press the < Del > key
the BIOS main menu opens
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...ain%20Menu.JPG

use right arrow key to go to Advanced Menu
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...ced%20Menu.JPG

use down arrow to go to Onboard Device Configuration - Press Enter
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...figuration.JPG

Azalia Controller should be set to [Enabled] if not use down arrow key to highlight the press the + key to change

Press the F10 key to Save & Exit

y to changes

the computer will then load Windows.

Install the audio driver again

Try a System File Check go to Run – type “sfc /scannow” (without the quotes and note space after sfc) have Win disc available in case sfc needs to replace or repair any files. The programme runs with no alerts and then closes.

What I think it means is update the soundmax driver from the CD. Do this, load the MB disc and close it, leave in the drive, go to Device Manager / Sound, video and game controllers / right click Soundmax or yellow flagged device / select Update Driver / No, not this time / select Install software automatically ( recommended ) Next. Device manager will find the driver on the disc and install
