Offline Files problem

I have a Dell laptop running Windows XP Professional SP-1. It is connected to a Windows 2000 server. I store my data files on the server and backup to the laptop with offline files. The problem I have is my laptop frequently shows a warning “OFFLINE FILES – Working Offline. You are no longer connected to the server”, and it goes offline. The network connection is still enabled and working. It occurs more often when there is a data transfer to or from the server but also sometimes occurs when the laptop is idle. Any ideas?

Perhaps your network card is set to go into sleep, or standby mode when the computer is idle. causing the first attempt to view web pages to fail...since it has yet to wake up...then on your second try after it wakes up everything works.

START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL, SYSTEM, HARDWARE TAB, DEVICE MANAGER, Expand network adapters, right click your adapter, click properties, click power managment tab, and uncheck the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" box.
