Sound with mute unmute

I'm running XP Pro SP2 on an Abit VI7 mobo the problem is computer crashed reinstalled XP and all the needed drivers and other software. After this now inorder to here sound I must mute then unmute and sound is fine until next reboot then must redo the mute unmute any ideas?
