Exclamation Problem with speakers sound

Please forgive me if this gets to long - this is my 1st time.

I have a Window XP Home Edition 500S Plus Computer - recently I was having problem with installing XP2 on my computer and got help from microsoft tech and now I am really having problems. On 12/15/07 tech contacted me and I closed down my firewall took off RegCure, Spyware. They had me reinstall my Operating CD which did not install completely because I was experiencing problems with my mouse would not work. Now my computer start up is extremely slow, takes about 3-5 mins to get from the Gateway screen to the desktop. Problems with shutting down and restarting again since I have to unplug the computer majority of time to reboot! I have tried everything including downloading the drivers from microsoft for sound yesterday and still not able to get it to work. I get error msgs that Sounds and Audio Devices Properties (no audio devices) no able to adjust volume since it indicates no drivers from sound and speakers.

I don't have my operation CD @ this time since my daughter took it doing the holidays. I am between a rock and hard place not knowing what I am to do. I have ordered SP2 CD in order to reinstall it on my computer since I was having difficutity installing with microsoft tech. I also get error msg "No Active Mixer Devices" At one point, the "Creative SB Audigy had a flag next to it and yesterday I was able to have this installed. When I open it states working properly.

On 010608 I installed updates Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1
Update for Background Intelligent Transfer Svc (BITS) 2.0 and Win HTTP 5.1 (KB842773). There were a host of automatic updates. Did not show the drivers that were downloaded on 010908, but these sound drivers are showing to be there.

Need the Gateway model or serial number ( should be listed on the tower on a label ) if not sure get Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates.

Go here to gateway http://support.gateway.com/support/d...s=Windows%20XP

1st - under Motherboard install the Intel Chipset - then restart your comp

2 audio one onboard the other a Soundblaster sound card, you should have 2 sets of audio plugs one on the I/O Plate and one in an expansion slot
I/O plate - audio is ADI
Expansion slot - Soundblaster audio
see this, click image to focus http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...0io%20slot.JPG

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

report shows onboard sound and a sound card
onboard - audio plugs are in the I/O plate
sound card - audio plugs are in an expansion slot

you will have 2 sets of audio plugs look at this to verify which you have
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...0io%20slot.JPG

try both set of plugs to see if sound working

I/O plate - audio ADI
expansion slot - Audio is Sound Blaster

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

Red face

Barbara
I got this BLUE SCREEN indicating a problem has been detected & windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer *if this is the 1st time you/ve seen this page stop error screen restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps:

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS emory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable componets, restart your computer, press F8:

Stop: 0x0000007E, 0xC0000005, 0xB17E032A, 0xF78D2BFC, 0xF78D28FC
ha1okx2k.sys - address B17E032A base @ B1789000, Datesstamp 46192fde

Beginning dump physical memory dumpin physical memory to disk:

(I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO CHECK THE INFORMATION LOCATED ABOVE, MAYBE IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE SOUND. HOW DO YOU CHECK TO DETERMINE WHICH DRIVERS ARE CAUSING THE PROBLEMS AND TO CORRECT THESE ERRORS? THIS IS THE 3RD TIME I HAVE SEEN THIS SCREEN. WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THIS COMPUTER. NOT NOT KNOW HOW TO CORRECT INFORMATION NOTED ABOVE.)

As always thanks for your help!
