Windows XP Home Warning Message

I need some information please.

A friend's computer running Windows XP Home occasionally pops up a warning message that she has over 500 fonts which may cause an improper display.

Her computer shows that she has 961 fonts installed. My computer has only 196 fonts installed.

1. Is this a serious problem for her?

2. Can she simply delete 461 fonts without any major problems.

Any information you can give would be appreciated.

TIA.
