Internet Gateway (Internet Connection)

First off. Thank you for letting me join the forum.

I have 2 Pc's a Desktop and a Laptop. Desk top running WinXP Pro, and the Laptop running WinXP Home. And i connect to the internet wih DSL with a router. I was trying to set up a home network so i could access files and my printer on my Desktop Computer. I did not have any luck with setting up the network i got something wrong so i will try again. My problem is now on my Laptop i have another Connection in my Network Connections above my Lan or High-Speed Internet and its called Internet gateway with a sub title of Internet connection. I can disable it but when i do i stops all access to the internet from thic Laptop. I tried to delete it but it says i You cannot delete a connection while its busy connecting. Please dissconnect or close login property page and try again. The connection that is within Internet gates way points to Linksys websight. Did i create this by accident when i was trying to set up a home network and how do i delete it.
PS: My desk top computer does not have the Internet gateway connection in it, only the Laptop.

Thank you

I wouldn't worry too much . Sounds like a local network connection enabling Internet sharing. Think of you router as an Internet gateway.....

Hello,

I am experiencing the exact same problem as okieguy and I know I can disregard the connection, but I still would like to delete it as it seems to be connected to my Desktop's Ethernet Adapter connection. I do not want that connection since ICS is not necessary in my situation. Is there any way that I can get rid of that annoying and very clingy connection. Can someone tell me the correct Registry keys to delete/manipulate in order to expunge that unnecessary "Internet Gateway"? Can I uninstall the ethernet adapter and simply reinstall it or update the device drivers? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I discovered this new connection today and have never even heard of it before. If you click its properties and settings you may find that it allows certain connections to connect to your services and for me, it allowed mamy connections to msmsgs.exe, a program that some say is a virus/trojan (otherwise it is just MSN Messenger, but i dont think so). Even stranger is that the gateway would show me my downloads/uploads and that these counts were increasing at a much faster rate than that of my local area connection (and the other computer connected to my network is downloading nothing) which makes me worry that someone else may be connected to my wireless network illegally, or hacking me from the internet. I managed to rid myself of this internet gateway thingy by unclicking all the allowed connections in the settings box. I guess that this program was made SOLELY to allow unwanted connections into your computer and using that judgement it should not be allowed to run. Get rid of it! If anyone finds out more please inform me of it.

Hi all.

Ive got a really weird problem and I hope you can help me. I use a bit torrent like program called Azureus, and have had no problems with it lately until today. I opened up a port on my DSL-G640T router for the TCP and UDP port so Azureus would work fine. It worked great for a while, but then my wireless would intermittently disconnect. I would turn off the router and then turn it back on and it would work again which was fine, but after a while it dissappeared from my machine, and in the device manager it told me that the device could not start. So i downloaded the latest drivers for the wireless network adapter: Intel (R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG. When I installed these, the device began working fine and I could connect to my router. The only thing that worries me is now in my network connections tab I have some kind of Internet Gateway. Im worried that perhaps through the open port I opened earlier, someone has managed to get through and has set up that connection to either have access to my Internet connection, or my computer. Or worse, both.

When trying to disable it, it says it is already in use, or dealing with a request. Please take a peek at the screenshots using the web links below. The first time I saw it, i clicked the settings tab on the internet gateway properties, and it had two boxs, for UdPnP? I think it was something like that. Both were for Azureus.

I hope someone can lend me some advice on this.

Thanks in advance.

Internet Gateway showing up in Network Connections - here is what you should do.

For those of you having an internet connection called Internet Gateway showing up in your network connections on your laptop on other computers where it should not show up, here is how to disable it.

go to Start
Control Panel
Ad/remove Programs
Ad/remove Windows Components
go to Network Services
Uncheck "Internet Gateway"
and finish by pressing OK.

Do that on all the computers where this connection shouldn't be.

I had that same problem, still don't know how this component installed itself but anyhow after hours of research on the Internet, I found the answer to my problem. I removed it I had fast connection again.
