Question Problem with video controller drivers...

Hi,
I recently bought a refurbished Pentium-III 996Mhz pc and I've installed Windows XP professional. Everything went well but the performance seems to be very poor(for eample when I am trying to drag a window from one place to another it's hardly moving). When I try to find out if it needs any video drivers, the Add/Remove Hardware browse told me that some "Video Controllers(VGA Compatible)" is missing with yellow colored. I tried to install video drivers downloaded from various websites but unfortunately they failed to get installed as I am not exactly sure about the specifications about my pC's chipset etc.
Could anyone help me suggest what exactly I need to do to overcome this problem?

thanks in advance,
S

As you say, no good trying different video drivers hoping you hit the right one. You need to identify the make/model of video card or chip (if it's integrated on the mobo). Go here and download a free version of 'Everest Home Edition'. Install it and run it. It will identify every piece of hardware inside the PC :http://www.snapfiles.com/get/everest.html

Or you could simply buy a new video controller with driver supplied. Mind you, it seems only expensive one's are stocked nowadays, unless you buy mail order.

Hey, i recently got an 8800 GTS gfx card, to replace my 7900,

so i took out my 7900, put the 8800 in - had to boot to safe mode to uninstall some nvidia drivers as it wouldnt boot into normal mode.
Now when i login into windows it says "Video controller (VGA compatiable)" in the device manager, and tells me to install drivers for it

The manual for the 8800 claims that you should let the drivers install automatically, and windows will install them fine and then you can restart and install proper nvidia drivers. however, everytime i click install the hardware wizard just says "cannot install this hardware"

it wont let me install nvidia drivers from the disc the 8800 came with, ive re-installed my mobo drivers using my mobo driver disk...
I cant find this drivers for this video controller anywhere.. i dont understand how your meant to install it, please help

my system specs are :
processer : AMD athlon 64 x2 dual core processer 4200
mobo : abit KN8 sli socket 939
ram : 2048 mb geil ram
gfx card : PCI-E EVGA 8800 superclocked 640 mb

thanks

To replace your old video card first you need to uninsall the Nvidia drivers and shut down the PC. Remove the old card and replace it with the new card and re boot. Windows should detect it and install a windows driver from there you would install the Nvidia driver.

Exclamation Desparate for help

I have an asus a8v deluxe mobo with amd 64 and via k8t800pro socket 939 chipset. I need drivers for video contoller(vga Compatible) I have tried via and asus sites several times, updated my bios, used mobo disk, and I have gotten nowhere. I even tried a reformat with no results. I alsi have a sapphire ati x1600 pro video card. Again I have tried all the drivers, including those on the site for ati. I have a samsung 940B LCD monitor which I cannot install drivers for because the video card drivers are not installed. Video card drivers will not install because the vga drivers are not installed and I can not find vga drivers ANYWHERE!!! I have been at this for several days. It is not an irq error, because it was all working before and then I unistalled the ati drivers (for video card) by mistake one day and now this is what I am left with. I anyone could point me to the correct drivers I would be so gratefull!!!! I am using Xp Pro!

Recently bought a second hand tiny p111 laptop, in the proccess of ripping programmes of and putting new oners on I messed up windows with a software conflict, so reformatted and reinstalled, initially loads of drivers were missing but most were found automatically online, but still the video controller and the modem come up with yellow exclamations, ran everst on the machiene and it came up with sis 315 for the vid controller (ran belarc too just to make sure but it recognised nothing for graphics devices), not too worried about the modem, as I'm on broadband and dinnie need it, but my video's really clunky although it does work, so have downloaded the driver from sis, saved it on the hard drive, coppied it to disc, and tried all manner of installation methods, but it still refuses to install, when doing it through the device manager it searches for a while and says it can't find the right software, when I try and install strait from the download it says it can't find the right driver, I've downloaded it from two seperate site (again just to make sure) but niether haveworked, any ideas anybody?? cheers
