Unwanted steps logging in and out
I have been 19 hours since yesterday re-building the operating system and recovering files on my sons PC. He was running ME but since we had to replace his hard drive we started afresh with XP Pro. I've installed XP Home and Pro about ten times before and never encountered the problem detailed below.
He is the only user set up on the PC, his name is Peter. We have downloaded all the Windows Updates and incorporated them. What has happened is that when the computer has to be shut off or restarts as part of the upgrade work - 'Peter' has to be specifically logged off. This isn't the case on any of the other XP Pro PC's (created after clean installs) in the house. Then, annoyingly, the computer stops at the message (something like) 'your computer can now be turned off' instead of just powering off without further manual intervention.
These aren't big problems admittedly, everything else seems to be in working order. I suspect it's something to do with User rights but I wasn't asked anything about designating an Administrator in the routine XP settingp-up process.
Peter is the only User, he should have Administrators rights, there are no passwords and none are desired.
What can I do to simplify the re-boot, re-start and turn-off processes?
Thanks again
