No Sound in Windows OS & Internet Explorer ONLY! (other programs have sound)
Hi guys, I'm experiencing an obscure sound problem. From what I recall, the cause of this problem came from a pop-up link in Windows Live! Messenger that came from one of my contacts who had a system-infection, but my contact did not send the link, Windows Live! Messenger sent it on its own. I clicked on the link, not knowing that my contact did not send it, and it led me to a website which I think is a.tribalfusion.com, which happens to be a "Smiley Central". Nothing happened immediately, but on the next day, my system had absolutely no sound whatsoever. I tried many things and the last thing I did was to go download some new drivers; it got the sound back for every program except for the Windows OS and Internet Explorer. For example, there is no "ding" sound when I adjust the volume up and down when there used to be and should be, for Microsoft Windows XP. And for Internet Explorer, when I'm watching videos in YouTube, I cannot hear a thing, which I used to be able to before this incident happened. Below are my system setups:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP2
AMD Athlon XP 2200+, MSI KT4 Ultra with VIA KT400/VT8235 Northbridge/Southbrigde Chipsets (onboard PCI audio C-Media 8738MX 6-Channel audio + SPDIF-out), DDR333 512MB, AGP GeForce4 Ti4200 128MB, Seagate 80GB Harddisk, AOPEN COM5232 DVD-rom/CDRW Combo drive
After I got the partial sound-recovery, from the new drivers, I ran a full-system scan with NOD32 Version 3.0.621.0 and it only found one keylogger in the temporary internet files folder and nothing more.
"C:\Documents and Settings\M2VFN\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\0VQ3EDUH\MoFunZone.com--diablo_2_lord_of_destruction_v1_09d_character_edit or[2].zip » ZIP » Diablo 2 Trainer.exe - Win32/Keylogger.HotKeysHook.A trojan - was a part of the deleted object"
PS. I can still hear sound in games and listen to music on iTunes
