Question 'My Documets' Keeps Being 'Read-Only'

Question:
I'm Running winXP Pro
i Always log on as the administrator

For some reason the 'My Documents' folder is ALWAYS read only
i tried to Unset it, but all that happens is that the next time i open the folder it returns to be 'read only'

anyone knows why or how to solve it ?

p.s. i also tried to change the folder but it kept doing that...

thanx

Is there a green square or a check mark in the box?

I saved this at one time and don't remember where I got it. The implication is that you didn't click the box enough times and that you have to click it once for every file in the folder (to turn the green square into a check mark). I haven't tried this so I don't know what happens if you sit there and click the box over and over again for every file in you "My Documents" folder.
_________

"In most cases, when you open the properties dialog box for a folder, the Read-Only check box will contain a green square. Windows displays the green square in a folder's properties dialog box because it would take too long to check the state of the read-only attribute for every file in the folder. To apply the read-only attribute to the contents of a folder, click the check box until a check mark appears. To clear the attribute, click the check box until it is emply. In both cases, when you leave the dialog box, Windows will ask whether you want to apply your action to subfolders of the selected folder or only to the selected folder's files."

A couple of solutions

Hi, you may wanna try the following:

- In options, disable "Disable Simple File Sharing".
This will give you the chance to change the permissions to specific users.

-Set in options --> View --> Show hidden Files and folders

AND

Show OS files.

Then you may wanna review it and attempt to make it non read-only

Also, maybe a file is affecting the reading as "Read-Only" such as "Thumbs.db" or "desktop.ini"

you may wanna delete those files.

I'm having this same problem... the only difference is it is across every file on my computer. I did a virus scan to make sure I was clean and I am. I can still change files oddly enough, but certain programs stall when they attempt to write over a previous file. Besides that, I really just don't want them read only!
