yet another annoying sound issue

OK, when I usually have an issue i just browse through posts already posted and figure it out from there, but I'm stumped here.

I decided to reformat my computer since I had not done so in a while and now I have no sound. When I go to control Panel - Sound and Audio Devices it states "No Audio Device". I checked the bios and sound is on here are the stats of my computer (I'm running windows xp and service pack2 and my computer is a dell dimension 4600 series):

Motherboard:

I followed some links posted to go to the Realtek site and download drivers for the audio adapter, I did this and when I tryto install the executable file my computer crashes.

please help me, I feel as if I'm running out of options and am about to try to just reformat again

Create a system restore point before installing.
