Hi
I have a newly installed version of XP Pro (SP2)(upgrade from Win98SE) which ran great for about a week. I completely reformated C: installed a clean version of Win98 (licensed instal CD) then ran the XP pro upgrade license. Then ran clean installs of my applications such as MS Office etc.
I have 512mB memory with a partitioned drive with C; (FAT32) 50GB and Drive D: (NTFS) 78GB. Drive D is empty and C has 37GB free. I have a 700mHz PIII processor and the system is quite efficient, up till now. I am running Norton 2007 AV with auto update enabled. XP has all its updates installed through today. I have an APC UPS attached to the sytem and it reported a power failure at 6:58 yesterday morning, 1/31 for 10 seconds. The system ran fine all yesterday.
This morning I turned on the monitor, I leave the system on 24/7, to discover the system had rebooted and at the log in screen the message read:
"Limited Virtual Memory
Your system has no paging file, or the paging file is too small.
To fix this problem, go to System in Control Panel, click the Advanced tab, and under Performance, click Settings. On the Advanced tab, click Change. Click 'Custom size,' and then type an initial or maximum paging file size."
I have followed the entire instructions from the MS Support site (
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315270) yet each time I reboot I receive the same message.
I have tried setting the page size to 766 (as recommended) for both values on both drives. I have also tried having the system set the values. I have assigned "no file paging" on the NTFS volume (D

, all with no success.
If possible, please send your suggestions to my email,

Thank you all
I have also followed some of the less obvious things like:
"This error message may occur if Windows tries to create a paging file on an NTFS volume, but the System and Administrators accounts do not have the correct NTFS permissions on the volume."
and
"The paging file (Pagefile.sys) is a hidden operating system file. If you modify the NTFS permissions on a volume in Windows, the System account may be inadvertently removed from the partition. If this occurs, the System account cannot manage some system resources such as the paging file.
By default, the Everyone group has Full Control permissions on an NTFS volume. This permission might have been removed to provide additional security. Individual accounts, such as the Administrator account, may have been added. However, the Everyone group includes the System account. Removing the Everyone group without adding the System account as an individual account renders the paging file unusable."
So having gone over all of these suggestions I continue to have this issue.
Any help will be greatly appreciated
