Computer sound mysteriously disappeared

Hello. My problem is the same as a lot o peoples. One day my sound just disappeared. Im not sure what happened, but nothing works. I have done all the troubleshooting and even let someone else look at my computer, but nothing is helping. I have downloaded drivers and unistalled stuff. Checked all kind of crap that doesnt seem to be helping. I knwo its not my speakers because my speakers work on other things.

System information

OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600
OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation
System Name PREFERRE-6EB761
System Manufacturer MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD
System Model KM266-8235
System Type X86-based PC
Processor x86 Family 6 Model 7 Stepping 1 AuthenticAMD ~1333 Mhz
BIOS Version/Date Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG, 4/18/2003
SMBIOS Version 2.2

Please someone help me get my sound back. Its really frustrating because i talk to my brother long distance from school through my pc, and i cant do that now because my sound is completely gone. If you need anymore information just ask ill be glad to provide it.

What was the last you remember doing before the sound went? Did you install anything before this problem happened?
Have you tried the correct drivers? I think it should be THESE let us know how you get on.

You could try checking Device Manager to see if there is a yellow mark by the sound card driver.

If there is uninstall it and reinstall the driver (could be driver conflict)

If not, try going into Sounds and Audio Devices in Control Panel and selecting the Audio tab.

Then make sure your sound card is the default sound playback device.
