no sound problem

My friends computer is haing a problem with no sound. I ran the Belarc Advisor and this is what it states for
Main Circuit Board:
Board: Intel Corporation D945GCNL AAD97184-102
under multimedia there is nothing listed.
He said that there use to be sound before the computer had to be reformatted and now it doesn't work. Any help would be appreciated.
Also under the device manager it shows that there is a problem under the other devices tab:
PCI Device
SM Bus Controller
Video Controller (VGA compatible)
If more info is needed please let me know.

Go to intels site and download the chipset driver. Nothing will work properly until that's in place.

These are the drivers for your Intel board http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filt...4&submit=Go%21

No:5 Chipset - install then restart your comp

Audio and Video drivers are listed, but these drivers will not work unless both you monitor and audio use plugs on the I/O plate. The PCI device could be a graphic card- look at thie - click image to focus

Set a System Restore Point before installing Each driver just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

Thanks for the help. I downloaded the following chipset:

No:5 Chipset - install then restart your comp

It took care of the SM Bus Controller. How do I go about figuring out the other 2 items?
PCI Device
Video Controller (VGA compatible)
Thanks!

If your monitor plugs into the I/O plate then the video driver from Intel is the one you want, if it plugs into an Expansions slot, you have a Graphic card installed, in that case we will need to know which Graphic card - see here, click image to focus
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...0io%20slot.JPG

if you use an Expansion slot Get Everest, copy and paste the Computer / Summary section

Open Everest - expand Computer - select Summary - select Report - Quick Report - HTML . The report opens, using mouse hold the left button and starting at all above Debug-PCI - highlight all the text - when highlighted right lick mouse - select Copy.

Set a System Restore Point before installing driver just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions
