Smile no sound on PC

Hi

I hope someone can help me please. The sound has gone on my PC. I have checked the speakers on another PC and they are fine. The only thing I did was to install AVG, and after that I had no sound. I don't know if it's connected or not. I have a Fujitsu Siemens PC with Windows XP on it.

Thanks

Need more info, what model if not sure Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates.

hi Bookworm, have you gone to control panel and opened " sounds and audio devices"? In program events, pick(left click) one of the sounds.when it turns blue, see if the arrow to the left of the "browse" should be dark. If that happens then left click the arrow. If it turns to a square your drivers are working. If this is a problem, your driver may still be damaged. try going to control panel and "system", "hardware", "device manager". Go to sounds and video game controllers... Are ther any yellow marks?(if so you will have a drives problem. Even if you don't, left click the "sounds + video game controller" . This will open. Right click the sound device and first--- try to update driver. If that doesn't work go back abd remove the driver. Then tell the system to automatically install it again. If this doesn't work Remove all the sound category and reboot. In control panel pick add new hardware and load your sound drivers from your cd or go to your motherboard site and download and install. Its important, if you get this far to remove the sound so that you get any damaged drivers off your system. This should work. Only one time this didn't work. I had to install a pci card. Everything I explained to you worked, but there must have been an open after the piont that said everything was ok. I hope this helps Bookworm.. Qfisheye
