Unhappy Volume Control deleted

I am having a major problem. I have no sound coming out of my computer or my speakers. I have tired all sorts of stuff. I have tried going to Realtek to update and install my sound card but that doesn't work. When I got to Sound and Audio devices it has a sound card listed but when i try to mark the box that says put an icon in the in the task bar, it says the volume control program has not been installed and to go to Add/Remove Programs to fix this, but I have no idea what to do once in that. or if it will actually fix the problem. I can make my way through directions, but i'm not very good with computers. PLEASE HELP! Here's my belarc findings:

This is the driver from Realtek http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...tDown=false#AC

Download the (Executable file) save to desktop, double click downloaded file on desktop to install

The site is slow

Set a System Restore Point before installing driver just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

Go here to Toshiba and install the Intel chipset driver - then Restart your comp, then install audio again

If by reinstalling audio you mean the WDM_A404. That did not work either. Did I need to do the system restore before I downloaded the WDM_A404 prior to downloading the thing from Toshiba?

Sorry for all the questions...

Check these out

Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Audio tab / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply > click Start > Reboot.

did the chipset driver install ok

The sound playback was set right as well as the windows audio service. Just because of desperation, I hit restart for that anyway. When I did, the icon for volume control appeared in my taskbar, however upon restarting it disappeared and still claims there is no program for volume control. The box that says place icon in taskbar is checked, but there isn't one in the taskbar and when i uncheck it and check it again the message comes up again that there is no program for volume control

The chipset driver did install just fine. it is still on my desktop.

My sound effect manager looks nothing like that, but I set the equalizer to what your's had. Nothing has happened. I'm not sure what to do with the speaker configuration and 3D audio demo. No sound comes out at all.

When I check the connector sensing on the sound effect manager it says the line in connector has no signal. I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Most likely, check the connections and the wire, are they in good shape, are they connected correctly.Do you have other speakers you can use or check on another system.

It's a laptop so there are no wires. Plugging in speakers requires me to go through the headphones connection.
