First download BELARC it will tell you what you have inside your pc. Just copy and paste what it shows you here.
Then we can sort out your driver issue for sound.

But try these drivers for now. http://www.softwarepatch.com/utilities/viaac97.html

For what i can see you have on board sound and the drivers i linked you to should do it for you.

Could you tell me the make and model of your PC? Is it say a Packard Bell and if so what model, you will find the info for this on your case some were or the paper work you got with it.

First though download these and install them

This is your audio driver http://support.packardbell.com/uk/it...ppn=P851008201

download, save to desktop, double click the downloaded file to start installation

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

right, ive downloaded the drievrs and installed them, it then asks me to restart my pc, ive restarted it then as it loads again it asks me if i want to run the software. i click run and it appears to load, then nothing happens. ive tried a few times and it does the same thing, and there appears to be something popping up in the taskbar that quickly goes away. does anybody know why its doing this?

check these out

Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Audio tab / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply > click Start > Reboot.

You need to check if audio is set to [Auto] in the BIOS, Packard Bell are very good at showing how to access the BIOS look here http://support.packardbell.com/uk/it... v_Peripheral

All commands are done through the keyboard, this is the path

As soon as comp boots press the F2 key'
Main menu opens
use right arrow key to select the Advanced tab
use down arrow key to select Peripheral Configuration - press Enter
Audio Device should be set to [Auto] if not down arrow key to select and press the + key to change
Press F10 key to Save & Exit
y to accept changes

the comp will then continue to load windows

Install audio again

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions
