Exclamation Windows wont boot :(

Hi guys first of all some pc details!

Motherboard: ASUS K8V-VM SKT 754 onboard VGA 6 channel audio mATX
Proccessor: AMD Sempron 3000+ Socket 754 1.8Ghz
Ram: Extra Value 512mb DDR PC3200 400MHz 184pin
HDD: Maxtor STM380215A 80GB Hard Drive 7200rpm 2MB Cache
PSU: Casecom 300W ATX PSU - 20+4pin
CD-ROM: Extra Value 48x CD-ROM Internal IDE
O/S: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition w/SP2b

Ok, basically i made a pc for a friend of the family just to use for some word proccessing and emails, didn't have to be anything swanky as you can see. Everything was delivered and in fine condition, i put it together and installed windows XP with no problems at all.

The third time the pc got turned on i noticed it took ages to boot up windows which seemed a little odd because of how new and how recently it was built.

This then got worse to the point where the pc wouldn't boot up windows and would just loop its self back to the boot screen. After a while of trying to get things working i tried Safemode. This i found weird because it goes into safe mode but with just a black screen and ofc i can't do anything with this. I even tried to load the windows cd and wipe the drive to fresh install windows and it just Blue screens before it even gets to the repair and install options screen.

I thought it may be the hard drive so i changed the IDE one for a 120g 7200rpm Sata one. Installed it booted it up, loaded the windows cd and it got to the install screen and it keep saying it had an error on a cirtain line (Sorry can't remember but it was error 768 i think). I then fiddled a bit with it and reseated cables and it went past i then formatted the drive and as soon as it got to copying the files it rebooted it self (This happens in NTFS and NTFS quick format). After this i thought "Ah it would have NTFS on it already so lets just install windows directly onto the platform thats there. It wouldn't read files left right and center and i was hitting retry to read files like ever second if not some times holding enter down to make it keep trying till it worked. but then at about 85% it kept rebooting its self.

I have tried a different battery in the MBoard, changed IDE and SATA cables, also tried a different CD-Rom out of my own pc to see if it was the original cd-rom not reading properly, cleaned the disc for both cd-roms and tbh im just lost now... I can't work out whats wrong and im looking for some advice if there is any going!

Thanks a lot

Dan
