windows updates for xp

I had to do a repair installation of Windows XP. Unfortunately the OEM cd had SP1. Ok, no big deal... but when I click on "windows update" on the program list, nothing happens... I even let it sit there for 30 minutes to see if it was just super slow... nothing happened. I went to the Microsoft site and attempted the updates from there. The screen indicating that it would need activex controls was the last screen that would appear. It had the warning on the same screen indicating that if the activex window popped up to allow it. (unfortunately there was no pop up window at this point). It just sits there some more. I have tried searching for similar problems without luck. Anyone have any suggestions???? This seems to be the only problem that I am facing since the repair install of XP...

Hi, try this site and download SP2 but you will still need uodates from MS after http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/xpsp2.html

Thanks for the helpful tips. I shut it down last evening and waited until this morning. When I booted it this morning, there was a pop-up window asking for updates and SP2. It has a "click here" link, so I clicked on that then it proceeded with updates it was needing. Apparently there were some SP1 updates that were required before updating to SP2.
