Need help connecting second monitor

Hi Guys & Girls,
I'm new to all this computer lark having just bought a second hand laptop, I want to use it to display on a TV (karaoke addict!!) but I've tried all the suggestions I've been given to connect it up i.e: display properties-extend windows desktop to this monitor but it won't allow it then somebody said maybe a driver? Yeah right so what's that then?

No it's not the driver. You need to buy a "laptop to tv connection kit". Comes in a blister-pack with the required cable and connectors. TV end of cable has either a scart plug or separate A/V connectors. Laptop end has a small round connector which you plug into the 'TV out' port. If no tv out port on laptop, you can't connect it to a tv. Some laptops only have a VGA-out port to connect to a monitor, not to a TV.
