Unhappy Confused about Desktop

While I was in the control Panel I double clicked on my FOLDER OPTIONS icon and this bar showed up on the left hand side of my desktop. The bar was the one that when viewing folders is on the left side of the window with the options (folder tasks) (other places) & (details). My question is how do I get rid of this annoying grey bar on my desktop.
Please help it is driving me insane.
Thanks in advance.

This is the second instance of the phenomenon I have seen here. I dont believe a cure was found the first time. I have tried to recreate it but with no success. I would right-click on your desktop and fool with different settings to see if anything happens. You could try switching to classic view as well. Let us know what you find out.

Is the bar actually on the desktop or in a window?

Question

I have tryed messing with every option amaginable under desktop settings and folder options. The bar is on the desktop and I cant right or left click on it to do anything. Also when I go into the control panel and try to select the folder options icon nothing happens. I can get to folder options with the tool bar at the top of my windows but an option I mess with nothing happens. One more thing I am networked to Microsoft 2003 and the little double computer icon down in the task bar has disappeared but the option is still checked to be there. I have no clue what happened to this.
Thank you and let me know if you figure something out.

Just a couple of things you might try.
Right click on the desktop & choose properties/ click on the desktop tab & change your wallpaper & see if it's still there.

If that doesn't work (and it probably will not) click on the "customize desktop" button & under the "web" tab, make sure that "lock desktop items" is not checked.

i've had this same problem. i think it has something to do with using programs like styleXP or windowblinds. what i did was change the taskbar apearance in the display properties. i dunno if this unorthodox method will work for you but it solved my problem.
