please help meeeee (multimedia audio controller)

hellooo...about 2 months back i was going deleting stuff from add/remove programs(control panel). after i tried to play some music but it just wouldn't play. then i realised that i must have deleted something from the add/remove programme thing which controls my sound. I think it was called conexant audio or something.. I tried troubleshooting and all that but nothing would work. today i just couldnt take it. so i typed in multimedia audio controller on google and it had a link to this forum thingy. i had a look. then i found out what i was missing. it was something called 'Realtek AC'97 Audio'. it sed this device isnt working properly.and the multimedia audio controller was the same problem as the realtek thing. so i went on to one of the realtek websites you recommended on the first page of this forum. i downloaded the driver. installed it. then i thpought it was working woooo. I restarted ma comp afta installing. Then it sed found new hardware: ‘multimedia audio controller’ and 'Realtek AC'97 Audio'. Then It opened wizard installing 'Realtek AC'97 Audio'. BUT then it sed there was a problem installing this hardware 'Realtek AC'97 Audio' and it also says 'this device cannot start.(code 10)' . now i am reely fed up.i want it done today or as soon as possible. please can someone help me..pleaseeeeee..i would realy appreciate it..by the way I have a laptop. This is your audio driver from Acer, it's Conexant http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/for...rds=&areaid=12

because you have a code 10 error message install this way

download the Conexant driver - unzip and make a note of where the files are stored, you will need this to point XP to install them

go to Device Manager
Go to My Computer / right click / Properties / Hardware Tab / Device Manager

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the Realtek, and choose Update Driver ( or the yellow flagged Multimedia Audio device )
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions
