VIRUS
THE VIRUS WAS ACTUALLY DISABLING MY ANTIVIRUS.I USED PCCILLINS HOUSECALL. EXCELLENT AND FREE. YOU WILL FIND IT AT http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

I HAVE RESEARCHED THE FOLLOWING.

NAME OF VIRUS: IRC_FLOOD.BI

VIRUS IRC Script

Destructive: Yes

Aliases: IRC/Flood.bi, IRC.Flood

Overall risk rating: Low

Reported infections: Low

Damage Potential: High

Distribution Potential: Medium

Description:

This Internet Relay Chat (IRC) script malware compromises security by allowing malicious users to remotely access the machine running it. It can be used to remotely launch a Distribute Denial of Service (DDoS) attack against another machine on a specified IP address.

By default, this IRC script malware connects via IRC port 6667. It does not have a means by which it can notify its malicious user that it is running and online.

This malware runs on Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, ME, and XP machines that have mIRC installed.

Obviously it's trying to phone home so trojan or worm. Here's SwatIt for trojans. you could also check to see who it's trying to phone by using GeekTools and entering IP address. Googling this may help to pinpoint the b*stard. Good luck

augie

Edit: Notice the word midi in there. Have you installed a music program recently. Esp. the "free" type that solicit you to install? Install ZoneAlarm It will give you the IP it'strying to contact

all that is happening by the sounds of it is you ahve software that is trying to dial home, have you got yourself a firewall if not i would say install SYGATE FIREWALL on the page download the basic firewall it is free and does a fantastic job i use it, and everytime a programme is trying to dial home you will get a box pop up saying xxxxxxxxx is trying to conect to xxxxxxxx all you do is say no, also click the little box in the corner of the pop up that say don't ask me this again, that way you don't get the box poping up every time for that programme.

anyway what wil happen is it will permanetly stop software that you do not want to dial out plus you will then not have your computer always trying to conect to the internet, hope this works for you.

haveing this firewall anyway is a must if you do not have a firewall, it is one of the best free ones out on the market
