Can't shut down Windows XP Pro.

When shutting down my computer it has always closed all apps, shut down Windows, then turned off the power to the computer.
A complete shutdown...

Since I made a clean install of Windows XP Professional, when I go to shut down the computer it closes all apps, shuts Windows down, then reboots. I have to punch the power button during bootup to shut it off.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem???
All help appreciated!

Still Can't shut down Windows XP Pro.

Many thanks for your contribution to solving my problem, Scouse.
I check them out and did all that they discribed. Including uninstalling Roxio's Easy CD Creater 5 Platinum (even though I had already updated the drivers for Win XP Pro.) Still the problem persists.

I do recall at one point that I changed the ACPI setting in the BIOS because somebody had told me it might be the problem. It wasn't, so I changed it back. Now, after reading Charlie russell's column, I see that because I changed the ACPI, I may have to reinstall the OS. BUT....... I'm going to play with this thing for awhile longer, before I take that drastic step.

Again, I really appreciate your help, Scouse!

If anybody else has any idea's that might help, I'd be pleased to hear from you, as well....
