Passwording shares? Is it impossible?
Not long ago a LAN was created in my neighbourhood, so I connected to it. Now here's my problem: at the beginning noone was able to acces my shares, it wanted an user name and a password, and it didn't work when applying the username and pas from my own account. I think I fixed this, but now here's my problem. In Win'98 there was an option to protect a shared folder with password. Here, I want to do the same thing, since there're some guys in my neighbourhood that share nothing and therefore I don't want to receive anything from me. But I can't find a way to do this! I'm using NOT the simple file sharing but the Security Permissions; there are EVERYONE inside, but on Sharing can't find a way to password the folder. And the Help Wizard keeps babbling about checking the "make my folder private", and that is 1)on Simple File Sharing and 2)Always grayed so it won't work anyway!! How can I get off that mess, do I have to create a new group just for those I'd like to enter my shares (that will be one heck of a task since I don't know each single LAN user from my neighbourhood, nor the names of their PC's, and since the computers are not permanently turned on, can't pick them from the My Network Places neither!). It was so easy in Win'98.... Any help will be very appreciated!
