Hello....I have an e-machines T1842....Had XP Home originally....Had motherboard replaced with an Intel D865GVHZ and the person who replaced it didn't think my XP restore disks would work, so he put Windows2000 on my machine....The sound worked fine; due to multiple problems and missing my XP, I got XP again and reformatted and loaded XP Professional....Then I had no sound.
At first I got a "No audio device installed" error message....So I read around on some forums like this, went to board manufacturer's site and downloaded Realtek AC97 Audio....Now my machine says I have a device, but I still have no sound...
I also see I have the following listed in Control Panel >Sounds and Audio Devices >Hardware (the Realtek shows up there, too):
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Driver
Media Control Devices
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Video Codecs
The Realtek AC97 shows a location....All the other stuff I listed above says "This device is working properly", but "unknown" as the location...
This seems to be a common problem, but it seems to have a lot of different solutions also.....Any advice for this one? I've tried to include all the pertinent information....
Thank you!
