When I run Defrag I get a report that I have files that cannot be defragmented. While it's only 31 KB in total, the location seems a little odd: C:\Documents and Settings\.... me ...\Local... I also notice that I have a second file under documents and settings with my name and ~ symbols between the first and last name. I assume it's a backup and just wonder if there's any way to clean things up so I can do a full defrag.
XP's native defragger is called "Diskeeper Lite". The full version, "Diskeeper 7.0", is much better. It costs $39.95, but you can get a 30 day free trial here. Try it. If you don't like it there are others like "PerfectDisk" by Raxco.
Just noticed that Diskeeper 7.0 has taken over my system tools and the XP defrag utility is no longer acessible. Does that mean I have to buy it? What happens after the trial period?
I don't know. I just switched not long ago and I'm planning on buying mine before the 30 days is up. My guess is that you'll lose the advanced features but will probably keep the new GUI.
If you do decide to uninstall it, let me know what, if any, changes you see in Lite and whether they let you keep the GUI (some programs leave the new face behind but not the options).
