Sound problem. Driver/No Driver.. Confused :S

Hi,
I borrowed my friend's laptop for a coursework. It was full of junk and virusses and hence i decided to format it and install a (pirated) windows XP pro on it.
Windows update couldn't verify it and hence I couldnt upgrade to service pack 2. However, one of my other friend had a Service Pack 2 CD(pirated). I downloaded the same.
Everything's working fine except two major problems.
-1) I cannot see any sound related hardware issues '?' in the Device manager. I can hear no sound but a beeep (for error msgs, etc). But no sound otherwise apart from a stupid beep.
-2) I cannot install Windows Live Messenger.. its an error message.
-3) sorry, a third problem.. i cannot update windows through the windows update website.

The Laptop spec - Compaq Presario (intel celeron) v2000.
FYI - i even tried installing all kind of drivers from the compaq presario website.

I have lost all hope and I do not want my friend to kill me . Someone save my life!!

Waitin to hear from a genius sooon!!

Answer 1: Install these drivers http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...oduct=500 508
Answer2: Insufficient data.

Answer 3: Get validated!
