Cannot delete desktop folder

I have a folder on my desktop that will not allow me to rename, move or delete. It is not a system folder and the folder is currently empty. I was able to successfully delete the contents of the folder, however when I try to delete the folder I get the following error message:

Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disc.

I believe that when I created the folder I inadventently put a space at the end which may be causing the problem(?) I have read through many threads looking for help to delete it, but nothing that I have found so far has worked.

I have tried starting up in safe mode and deleting and have tried deleting through dos (the folder was not recognized when I tried this option) I also tried dloading a program to delete it (can't remember the name of it now as I deleted it when it didn't work)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Try booting up your computer in safe mode, and then try to delete it.

If that doesn't work, try this:
http://www.theeldergeek.com/delete_undeletable_file.htm

You said it was a folder that is giving you trouble right? in that case, if you are doing it the elderGeek way you will have to replace the DEL command with the RD command.
