No Sound

I am trying to reload Windows XP for a friend, but I cannot get the sound drivers loaded.

The machine is a Dell Dimension 5100C. It has SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio built in sound.

I have tried most of the suggestions I have found on this forum to no avail. When I try to load the drivers through the "Add New Hardware", I get this message, "An error occurred during the installation of this device." When I try to install the drivers from the installation file downloaded from Dell, I get this error after the machine reboots, "This system does not support the driver..." I have tried "installing" the Microsoft UAA from the HP website as recommended. After running the install file, I get no confirmation that anything was installed and in the Device Manager, Microsoft UAA is not listed. I also have a PCI device in my Device Manager that is flagged yellow.

Does anyone have any suggestions, because I am at my wits end?
