Keyboard/Mouse freeze in XP

My daughter loaded MSN messenger the other day, since then, when XP finally boots up, my keyboard and mouse are usless. The keyboard works to get into BIOS, but no changes there have any effect when XP boots up. I have also accessed the XP boot up screen by pressing F8, but none of those methods (i.e. Safe Mode, etc.) have any effect. No matter what I try, the keyboard and mouse will not work in order for me to enter the system recovery, or to delete anything that has been loaded. Any suggestions? I don't have an XP cd-rom, so I can't try that, and I am going to download the start-up disk from Microsoft and try that. Any other help would be appreciated.

Hi wasatchbl1,

What sort of keyboard and mouse are you useing.

If its a dual wireless set up thats not working, have you tied the older individual mouse and keyboard type with the lead and plug if so does this work.

If could as simple as reinstalling some drivers or doing a system restore, but we will need some more detail to be able to help you effectively.

Have another look at the problem, take some notes and come back to us.

Keyboard/mouse problem

I have both a PS/2 mouse and keyboard plugged in the back. I can't seem to get into system restore or device manager, as the keyboard and mouse both stop working when XP is fully loaded and running. I don't have the drivers on disk, but maybe can access them on another computer. Will XP let them automatically load? Even though I can't click or hit enter to start them? I know the keyboard works up until XP is up and running, so maybe its an XP thing.

wasatchbl1,

Did your PC come with a recovery disc, if so have you tried it.

Do you have access to this pc via network or remote access, if you do you can get input drivers from here and install accross the network or by remote.

Code:
http://www.input-drivers.com/

Alterately, Ask your friends if they have a XP install disc (Home / Pro) which ever one you are using, if so ask to borrow it and repair your OS with it.

I am assuming that the CD Rom is still funtioning.
