Location does not change after re-install. If you can't see, it is not there.

stuff back

What kind of "stuff " is it? and what porgram did you use to download the music? what did you uninstall or reinstall? Go back program only works if you create a restore point. If you have not uninstalled/reinstalled xp then you can use system restore to get your "stuff" back if there is a system check point created close enough to the date/ time that you uninstalled the program.... but only if it was not Windows xp .... I have used System Restore to get back to a point that the program was still installed. Now if you have installed other applications between the current date and the date you restore back to... those applications will have to be reinstalled. Let me know what your status is and I'll try to help you.. you think I would get tired of helping others as I do telephone support for a major Computer manufacture. haha.

My music was ripped off cd's using media player. So its under my old documents. We reinstalled windows xp pro cause of a virus but my stuff is safe. My folder was password protected so I think thats why I can't get into it. But the dumb thing is it doesn't ask if I know the password or else I could get easy.

when you reinstalled windows xp your music files aren't recognized by the windows registry. when you ripped the music thru the media player the windows registry traced what and where you put it. Now after reinstalling windows xp it doesn 't know where your music went to. System restore will not work in this instance. Your password is not "registered" in XP cause it has become disconnected from the files and programs that were previously installed. In the future you need to back up all of your important files and data on media outside of your hard drive. Pro has a good back up program that can be used for this purpose. Looks like you are gonna have to do it all over again. Anybody else know of a way to get back his music files. please comment.
