Can't connect to internet?!?

OK... so i'm a novice at computers, so dont shoot me down if i'm being really stupid!

I had to re-instal my copy of Windows XP Home and now i can't seem to access the internet?!?

I've done a quick search and found out that its probably something to do with my drivers... Thing is i dont know what to do now?

I've found out my motherboard type : Dell Inc. 0M3918

It says that i have no network drives when i run a diagnostic tool to find out my system info. I'm guessing this is the problem? But how do i fix it?

I'm running a NETGEAR router, of which i have the CD, but this didnt help at all and just said my computer could not detect my router.

Please, any help would be great as i need the internet to finish my work this weekend! Dont make me have to go into the office tomorrow!!!!!!
