Audio problems

Having had to build another computer due to motherboard problems with last one, I have installed everything, it has onboard sound with additional front panel plug access. I can only get sound when I plug into front panel and not the rear any suggestions?
Running xp home, no errors under device manager, no new driver updates, Sis 7012 audio driver, nothing is muted. Motherboard is Energy Sis661fx V2.0.
