Using Product Key on different Service Pack

Something I want to ask other people here, now is my understanding correct that with regards to product keys, they are only associated with the class of media type, whether its retail, oem, corporate, upgrade.

Some of the reading I have done on other forums indicate that as long as the same class of media is used, the key will still work, regardless of what service pack level it is? Like using a sp1 key on a sp2 disk, or sp2 key on a sp0 disk?? As long as its the same type of media it shouldnt matter? Retail with Retail, Upgrade with Upgrade.

Speaking of oem versions, now is my understanding correct that in the case of SP2c oem discs, they will only work with sp2c keys??

Hey thormatrix,

Your assumption for Windows XP SP2c is correct.

Because of extend End-Of-Live [EOL] for Windows XP, Microsoft had to allow more product key to be used for OEM customers....and the only way around it was through hot fixes, End users will not be able to successfully complete installation of Windows XP Professional with SP2c if they do not have updated CD / image.

Cheers
