Slow right click on network.

Here's a problem I've been researching for a few days. Can't seem to find the exact problem anywhere.

Operating System: Windows XP

When trying to right click a file in our New York office (we are in California), it takes a very long time for the context menu (cut, copy, paste, send to, etc...) to appear.
This problem is isolated to only a few of the XP machines. On some computers you can right click the file, which can be as small as 14kb and as large as 5 mb, and the menu pops up in under 3-5 seconds. On other XP machines it'll take 20-30 seconds to right click the same exact file, longer for any file larger than 500kb. I've tried several solutions found on the web but none of them work.

Solutions I've tried:
Deleting registry value that looks for scheduled tasks and printers.
Tried uninstalling the 811493 XP update.
Adding 3 registry values Max something or other. I don't remember the exact values.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I've experienced very similar problems with machines that are running anti-virus software. (McAfee in particular.)

It got so bad that it had to be removed in the end. Not sure it's the same in your case but worth investigating.

Hello,

There are two options in XP responsible for this. It is easy to fix.
Go to This Computer, right click goto properties.
choose for tab advanced, klik the settings button for visual effects, processor, memory etc.
In the screen for visual effects, choose for the last option customized.
There you can change different settings in the way XP handles different graphical things.
Deselect the two options that start with menu (nr 7 and 8 from the top) click apply, OK and try to reproduce your complaint again.
It should be gone.

Hope this solves your problem
