Hi

This is renjith.

I reviewed your concern and I understand that the CD C|DVD icon is missing;

PLease try the steps mentioned below

Start the computer.

NOTE: Wait a few seconds for the CD/DVD to be detected before double-clicking to access it.

Ensure the disc is clean and free of smudges, fingerprints and scratches, and that it is inserted correctly.

NOTE: The label should be facing up for CD and single sided DVD discs.

Try a different disc in the drive.

IMPORTANT: If another disc works in the drive, the disc may be damaged in some way or is not readable.

Turn off the computer.
Unplug the computer from the AC power outlet for 30 seconds, then plug it back into a known working AC outlet.

If the drive is removable, ensure the drive is properly connected and has power.

Turn on the computer.

If the computer is a notebook, ensure the drive is enabled in Power Management.

Ensure no hardware resource conflicts are present.

Ensure a third-party application is not blocking access to the drive.
Ensure no unsupported WIN.INI or SYSTEM.INI drivers are loading.

Perform a system restore to a point when the CD/DVD drive was functioning properly.

Check for a possible virus on the computer.

Remove the upper and lower filters from the registry.

Perform a system recovery.

Please be aware that performing registry editing is not adviced for new to computer users.

Thanks and regards

I am having the same exact problem with my computer except my problem is with my sound instead of the CD/DVD drive. I just recently experienced a computer crash ("the blue screen of death"). I don't think I messed with the registry or anything to create this crash. But after the crash, I restarted my PC and upon loading, the sound did not work. I cannot play any local files with audio or anything from the internet, etc.

I wish I could perform a system restore, but I had turned off the system restore a long time ago to free up some disk space. Therefore I don't have any restore points to revert back to. Also I don't want to delete the upper and lower filters for the registry key stated above yet, because I wasn't sure if that key was only for the optical drive or specifically for this error.

I don't think that it is a driver problem because I have tried to upgrade my drivers and the error is still there. I have browsed many other forums but I couldn't find any helpful answer to my specific problem.

When I go to Start>Run>services.msc
Then I scroll all the way to the bottom and click on "Windows Audio", there is nothing wrong with it. It is "started" and set to "automatic start". I have also tried to restart the service but nothing happened.

Then I right-clicked on My Computer>Properties>Hardware Tab>Device Manager.
Under the "Sound, video and game controllers" category every subcategory has an alert icon next to it. When I right-click>Properties, there is a message that says:
"Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)
Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device."

Since then I have been searching for solutions for errors with the keyword "code 41". If anyone is able to help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Dudes this is different..... THis error can be in Keyboard also..Try once..
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E96B-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
in right page double click on on upperfilters (data->Kbdclass) and in the value data it should contain kbdclass only and one enter so the cursor chould blink on the next line on the value. Then click on OK and exit the registry editor, and restart the computer and then try to use the keyboard

this is MS solution for error code 41

Code 41
Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)
Recommended resolution

A driver was loaded but Windows cannot find the device. This error occurs when Windows does not detect a non-Plug and Play device.

If the device was removed, uninstall the driver, install the device, and then click Scan for hardware changes to reinstall the driver. If the hardware was not removed, obtain a new or updated driver for the device.

If the device is a non-Plug and Play device, a newer version of the driver might be needed. To install non-Plug and Play devices, use the Add Hardware wizard. Click Performance and Maintenance on Control Panel, click System, and on the Hardware tab, click Add Hardware Wizard.

On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard.
