Image Viewer problem with XP Home

Hi, I have installed Windows XP Home. There is a problem with the image viewer in that the thumbnails do not correspond with the actual photo file. I have never come across this problem before. can anyone help? The photos were downloaded from a computer that was running Win98 and are in jpeg format. Thanks, Kate
