My sound doesnt work

my speakers are plugged in and turned on but there is no sound coming from my computer like error noises or the opening sound wen u log into it. can any1 help me?

i do not have a restore disc and its been over a year since i used the computer and i do not have restore points.

if i try to play something in windows media player then i get this error message

Hey there! You may want to try a couple different things: If you haven't used the computer for awhile, you may want to open the case and make sure that your sound card is plugged in tight and free of dust. Also, you may want to check and make sure that you have the correct drivers for the sound card that you're using.. Hope that helps you..
