Red face IE homepage problem

i am having a weird problem in Internet Explorer...
the address field where you type your homepage in internet properties will always become empty even when i type some address and the Use Current option is greyed out and when i select Use Default option i get ??????? in the address field ...when i give use blank and apply it next time when i open the internet properties the address field will be empty due to this i am not able to open my IE browser...
Please help me.....
