Setup and XP Drivers for Compaq SR5120AN

Hi
I recently purchased a Compaq SR5120AN PC and found that it was running very slow on Vista.

I have switched to XP SP2. I tried installing drivers from a previous thread on this forum as Hp and Compaq never released the drivers in XP for this PC themselves. The drivers were not successfull.

I decided to search via trial and error to find the best working drivers myself for this PC which I have now archived to help others who would like to use XP instead of Vista.

I have uploaded the drivers onto Rapidshare. There are two files, so if you are not a member you may have to wait a couple hours before downloading the second file. After clicking on the link below download via the "Free" tab, if you are not a member.

Compaq SR5120AN XP Drivers:

http://rapidshare.com/files/12209385...rivers.rar.002

Use HJSPLIT to join:
http://www.freebytesoftware.com/download/hjsplit.zip

Use WINRAR to extract.

If this has been helpfull, a Reply "Thankyou" would be nice.

Glad I could help.

I bought my SR5120AN at office works in West Ryde for AU$429.00 which included the monitor(WF1907). It was the only one left, brand new of course and a girl who worked there was suppose to buy it but she backed out at the last minute.
I did'nt go in planning on purchasing a pc that day as my old Dell was still doing the job. But the price was too good to refuse.

I always liked the style of this Compaq model too, nice tower design with firewire port and card reader at the front and also liked the 19" monitor having the speakers inbuilt.

The only thing negative was Vista. Anyway I googled and found this site in search for XP drivers and learnt from a previous thread what to search for exactly. After a few hours of trial and error I found the best drivers eventually and knowing that these drivers took some time to find and test. I thought I'd save you guys the trouble and upload them.

The sr5120an was definately meant for XP not Vista... it's a shame that the guys running Compaq's website have not realised this!

Rob.

Hi Robbie,

Many thanks for this information. My brother recently purchased this PC and was finding Vista was really sluggish on it, so he asked me to install his old Windows XP instead. The missing drivers were giving me a headache, until I came across your post.

Although I'm wondering if you have come across the same problem I have. It seems that some images display blurry and/or at poor quality. Even the default XP wallpaper appears as such. Other images have faint horizontal lines or some JPGs look like they have been saved at a poor quality (although under Vista they didn't and I checked on my own laptop and they are okay too so it's not the image itself).

Seems to happen under all resolutions I've tried (800x600, 1024x768, 1152x864) with both 32 bit and 16 bit color. I tried messing with the Nividia settings, but no luck. Am using a CRT monitor though (Samsung SyncMaster 753D) rather than LCD, so not sure if that makes a difference.

Even if you know of a utility that might help fix this kind of issue it would be much appreciated. I did do a search through Google for solutions and possible causes and could only come up with info on such usually being caused by an incompatible driver.

Even if you can't help, I do thank you for providing these downloads though, as at least it's better than the default VGA driver that XP installed! That and there is sound now!

Hi,

Firstly check the dpi settings by right clicking anywhere on the desktop>properties>settings>advanced>general and then you set the dpi to 96 if it's not already at that setting. I'd set the res to 1024x768, 32bit color for that type of monitor aswell. Icons will be a little smaller but much clearer.

I did'nt have this problem on mine. I'm using the compaq wf1907 flat panel monitor. It's possible that the video driver did not install properly first time around, for what ever reason. After trying the above tip and if that still does not fix the problem, then I suggest uninstalling then reinstalling the video driver as it could be as simple as that.

If that does'nt solve the problem, you could see if it's the monitor itself as being the problem, by plugging it into the vga port at the back of the laptop. Boot up as u would normally. If the problem is there then you'll know that the blurriness is being caused by the monitor.

It could also be that the system Vista was able to show the images a little clearer to Xp naturally. The difference could be miner but you might be noticing it a bit more as u were use to Vista's clarity. Depending on how bad the problem, now is of course.

Give the above a try anyway and see how u go.

Rob.
