Exclamation Windows Update.... Messed up my Connection

I got a notification that a windows update was ready to be installed yesterday and unfortunetly I installed it. Now I can't access the internet at all. I've tried to to a "System Restore" but it doesn't help. I've also tried to remove the update through the Remove Programs function... nothing. I've even tried to uninstal IE altogether and then re-install. Also uninstalled Zone Alarm.... all to no avail.

Please help!!!
TIA

Blaster - You have to give us more info on the update you installed.

I installed the update that was reported to cause the internet problem yesterday (I only found out about it afterwards). I'm not sure about the number of the update but it's the one that MS pulled from it's web site yesterday and says that you can just uninstall it to undo the damage to the computer.... they lied.

Yeah, I've seen the stories everywhere. What I don't know is how to get rid of the damm thing! I've tried to remove the update, remove Zone Alarm, remove IE and a System Restore!!!
Please someone tell me what I can do short of reformating the hard drive!!!!

Blaster - Go to Control Panel - Add/Remove programs and scroll down to near the bottom where you'll find a list of hotfixes. Look for Q811493. If it's there; delete it.

Here's the complete story on Q818043 . 8110493 is now back up, but since I'm on a standalone and only user I don't need it This was the one that made many systems run like molasses.

So what about what was said earlier - deleting Q811493? Should I delete that one or just delete Q818043?
Also, do you know why a system restore didn't clear up the problem?
P.S. Thanks for all you help guys!!!!!

1: 818043 deals with lost internet connection. Your problem.
2: 811493 slows some systems drastically. If your fine then do whatever you like. Doesn't matter unless other people use your system. It's a small security risk anyway.

3: System restore hasn't worked for a lot of people. They only find out when it's too late unfortunately.

The fix is to turn restore off then on. You will lose all your previous points but since you can't use them anyway?

I suggest on any clean install to do the above procedure for restore to work properly from the start. I've never seen anyone complain that restore stopped working for them after doing this.

Good luck to you

augie

Thanks all.
I can't explain why but it seems that deleting 811493 brought the internet connection back. I had no change after deleting 818043. I restarted the computer after each deletion of a hot fix and it was the 811493 that did the trick.
Thanks again everyone for your help!!!
