problems with vista installer

everytime i try to install vista home basic, it gives me an error message saying something like it couldnt configure my systems boot.
this has happened about three times now and for some reason when i tried installing vista ultimate, th installation went the farthest.
im not planning on using ultimate because vista upgrade advisor says that business or home basic would be best for my comp.
